MARK IV GEARTEC

These installation notes apply only to the Martec Mark IV Geartec folding propeller series. Both Shaft Drive and Sail Drive instructions are given below.

SHAFT-DRIVE

INSTALLATION
PARTS LIST

(2 ea.) Blades
(1 ea.) Hub
(2 ea.) Monel Pivot Pins
(1 ea.) Key
(1 ea.) Nut
(4 ea.) Monel set screws
(2 ea.) Monel cotter pins

 

TOOLS NEEDED
Wheel-puller (to remove fixed prop or hub from folding prop)
Soft rubber mallet (to tap hub if necessary)
File (for key, if slightly oversize)
Pipe Wrench (to hold main gear)
Socket wrench and extension: 3/8" for shafts 3/4" and 7/8" diameter
Socket wrench and extension: 1/2" for shafts 1" and larger diameter

Optional when required: 1/8" drill bit

TO DISASSEMBLE
Remove set screws from (2) holes on clevis end of hub. Note: there are two set screws per hole.
Drive pivot pin out of hub to remove blades.
TO ASSEMBLE
Install hub and key on shaft; check for proper fit.
Install shaft nut (supplied with prop) using socket wrench with extension. Tighten nut as much as possible until holes in hub line-up with holes in nut. If line-up is not possible, use existing 1/8" holes in hub as guide for drilling new holes through nut.

Install (2) cotter pins in hub (one from each side), spread pins in square hole of nut. Note: may need to cut/trim end of cotter pins.

Install blades and pivot pins to hub following the number corelation stamped on hub, blades, and pivot pin.

Install locking set screws into threaded holes located on aft end of hub. Be sure the threaded holes align with holes in pivot pins. Use two set screws in each hole.

 

SAILDRIVE
INSTALLATION

Remove blades from hub; note numbering on pivot pins & blades.
Mount Yanmar shaft spacer followed by Martec propeller hub onto splined shaft.
Attach Yanmar shaft nut & cap screw to secure hub to shaft.
Install blades & pivot pins to hub following the number correlation stamped into hub, blades,
and pivot pin.
Install locking set screws into threaded holes located on aft end of hub. Be sure the threaded holes align with holes in the pivot pins. Use (2) set screws in each hole.
